Ten rebel returnees in Madalum, Lanao del Sur receive food packs consisting of 20 kilograms of rice, a kilo of dried fish, and a variety of condiments that they could use during the Iftar or the breaking of the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan. The distribution was conducted by the 55th Infantry Battalion in collaboration with OPAPP. (55th IB)
MADALUM, Lanao del Sur, Apr. 26 -- Two days before the start of Ramadan, the 55th Infantry (Vigilant) Battalion in collaboration with the Office of the Presidential Adviser on the Peace Process (OPPAP) handed over food packs to 42 rebel returnees.
In a simple ceremony held at Barangay Multi-Purpose Hall of Barangay Dilausan here, Lieutenant Colonel Franco Raphael H. Alano, commanding officer of the Vigilant Battalion together with the Barangay Chairperson Aman Usop, conducted the initial distribution and handing over of the food packs to ten (10) rebel returnees.
Similar ceremonies were also held at the Municipalities of Pagayawan and Bayang where eight (8) and 22 rebel returnees benefited from the program, respectively.
Each of the beneficiaries received 20 kilograms of rice, a kilo of dried fish, and a variety of condiments that they could use during the Iftar or the breaking of the daily fast during the holy month of Ramadan.
The rebel returnees are former members of the Daesh-inspired Local Terrorist Group in Lanao del Sur who through various efforts of the battalion and with the support of the residents, decided to return to the folds of the law.
The rebel returnees are currently undergoing various programs of the government to help them reintegrate back to society. (55th IB/PIA ICIC)
