From the Philippine Information Agency (Mar 17, 2020): TF-ELCAC officials to SUCs: Watch out for left-leaning groups (By Benjamin Moses M. Ebreo)

BAYOMBONG, Nueva Vizcaya, March 10 (PIA) - Officials of the Provincial Task Force-End Local Communist Armed Conflict (TF-ELCAC) yesterday urged the management of State Colleges and Universities (SUCs) and private schools here be vigilant on the presence of left-leaning organizations preying on youth leaders and ordinary students to further their anti-government agenda.

This was made during the joint meeting of the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) and PTF-ELCAC meeting at the Nueva Vizcaya Pasalubong Center in this town.

Lawyer Voltaire Garcia, Provincial Legal Officer said there is a need to bring the issue on the level of the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), considering that it involves academic freedom.

“Although we cannot directly compel SUCs to easily prohibit these activities and also our students to refrain from joining because of academic freedom, we will take the challenge to address this through our membership with the PTF-ELCAC, in coordination with otehr agencies, ” he said.

This developed as representatives of the Philippine National Police (PNP), Philippine Army (PA) and the National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) bared that left-leaning organizations have been conducting their anti-government engagements inside SUCs in the province with student leaders of organizations and their members.

They added that even senior high school students have become targets and participants in various anti-government exposures by the left leaning groups prompting them to seek the intervention of the Department of Education (DepEd).

“As of now we have not received a response from the DepEd which we can also use to conduct our own orientations to expose the deceitful activities of left-leaning groups which are the front line organizations of the Communist Party of the Philippine-New People’s Army(CPP-NPA),” said Bill Olsim, NICA representative.

He said the left-leaning organizations have conducted their recent anti-government activities among the student of and inside the Nueva Vizcaya State University (NVSU).

Professor Samuel Damayon, Associate Dean of the St. Mary’s University’s(SMU) Student Affairs also said they have recently disapproved a request from an organization attempting to conduct youth-related activities in their university.

“After learning their left -leaning background, we decided to disapprove their request,” he said.(MDCT/BME/PIA 2-Nueva Vizcaya)
