COTABATO CITY, Mar. 8 (PIA) – Cotabato City Mayor Atty. Frances Cynthia Guiani-Sayadi has called on law enforcers to further intensify the conduct of random checkpoints and inspections inside the city following the recent series of shooting incidents here.
“It is alarming because 90 percent of these shooting incidents involved people who are not residence of Cotabato City,” Mayor Guiani-Sayadi said, during the 1st regular quarterly meeting of the City Peace and Order Council (CPOC) on Thursday.
According to Guiani-Sayadi the city police office has already recorded around 20 shooting incidents during the first two months of the year.
“Initial investigations have revealed that these shooting incidents rooted from long standing feuds or ‘rido’ of people outside the city,” she noted
Considering that Cotabato City is the center of trade, commerce, education, and entertainment of Central Mindanao, the mayor said, these people who have long standing rido chance upon each other in the city and somewhat finished their disputes here.
“Though we could say that these rido-related incidents shooting do not quite affect our city’s peace and order condition and economy, nevertheless these also cause some negative impact on our city’s image,” she said. (PIA Cotabato City)
