Various national government agencies joined hands with private stakeholders and the local government of Bislig City, Surigao del Sur, to deliver services to a community that has long been a flashpoint of communist rebel activity.
In a statement on Sunday, the Army’s 75th Infantry Battalion 75IB said 1,700 residents in Sitio Mabog, Barangay San Roque in Bislig City benefited from the "service caravan" provided by the Office of the Special Assistant to the President (OSAP), various non-government organizations, the business sector and government agencies.
The caravan, held at the village gymnasium ion October 26, provided residents with medical services, anti-rabies shots, as well as circumcision for the children, vaccination for pets and even free haircut.
A total of 200 seedlings of high-valued crops were also provided to the farmers during the caravan.
Residents also availed of legal assistance as well as in the processing of paperwork at the local civil registrar. They also received goods, school supplies, toys and used clothing, the 75IB said.
The service caravan was spearheaded by Lt. Col. Warren C. Munda, commander of 75IB, and Bislig City Mayor Florencio Garay.
Munda lauded the joint efforts of the government and private groups to the success of the caravan.
"The government is truly committed to a change towards peace and development in the country and we want you all to be part of this campaign in ending the communist insurgency,” Munda said in a statement on Sunday.
Reygela M. Decalit of OSAP also expressed appreciation to Barangay San Roque residents for welcoming the various stakeholders in their area.
“We are here to serve you, as public servants. Let us work together as a team,” Decalit said.
She said the delivery of basic services remains the primary objective of the government to attain peace and development in the countryside.
