GENERAL TRIAS, Cavite – The local chief executives of the 23 cities and municipalities of the province, heads of concerned national agencies, the academe and civil society organizations once again recently gathered for the 3rd Quarter Meeting of the Cavite Provincial Peace and Order Council (CPPOC) and the Anti-Drug Abuse Council (PADAC) held at The Bayleaf Hotel.
Mr. Alvin Mojica, Provincial Administrator for Community affairs presided over the meeting on behalf of Governor Jonvic Remulla, chairman of the council.
During the meeting, Col. Cesar Fernandez of the 202 IB of the Armed Forces of the Philippines said although there is no terrorist armed group presently operating in the province, they are likely to exploit national issues and use them to further their influence on sectors like the labor, students and the youth, transport and the urban poor.
Col. Fernandez emphasized the importance of sustained delivery of basic services, livelihood and development projects especially in critical areas and vulnerable sectors to curtail the infiltration of communist terrorist armed groups and ensure internal security in the province. Further, he urged the Declaration of Persona Non Grata of communist groups in the municipalities down to the barangay level.
DILG OIC Provincial Director Eloisa Rozul commended the efforts of Maragondon Mayor Reynaldo Rillo thru the provision of basic services and other assistance to affected families that kept undesirable groups from infiltrating the communities of Barangay Patungan and Pinagsanhan.
Jesus Barrera, Provincial Planning and Development Coordinator reported on the peace and order and anti-drug abuse programs while Police Maj. Jonathan Asnan provided an update on the status on peace and order situation showing a notable 37.5% decrease in the crime statistics from January – September 2019 with 980 as compared to the same period in 2018 with 1,567 recorded crimes.
Meanwhile, Dr. Nelson Soriano, head of the Provincial Epidemiology Surveillance Unit showed a record on the reported cases of dengue outbreak in the province from January 1 to September 19, 2019 totaling to 13, 292 of which 51 were fatal.
“The dengue outbreak is a public concern that must be promptly and rightly dealt with since it has been a recurring problem in the province for years,” Dr. Soriano said as he called on the chief executives to help the health department to address this issue thru legislations that will instill in the people the awareness on the proper ways to battle this disease.
In addition, reports on the security preparations for the upcoming SEA Games to be hosted by the Philippines was given by Police Lt. Col. Pablito Naganag with the province being part of the venue for games and billeting of athletes. (Ruel Francisco, PIA-Cavite/with reports from PICAD)
