Posted to Kalinaw News (Aug 20, 2019): Another NPA surrenders in Surigao del Sur

TAGO, Surigao del Sur, Aug 20 – A member of the New People Army (NPA), Communist Terrorist Group (CTG) had voluntary surrendered to the Army’s 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion last August 18, 2019 at H36IB, Brgy Dayo-an, Tago, this province.

The surrendered personality is identified as @Jobert, 20 yrs old, single, Manobo and a resident of So. Silop, Brgy Agsam, Lanuza, SdS. Said NPA is a member of team Baking, Squad 1, SPP1, WGF30 of the North Eastern Mindanao Regional Committee (NEMRC) bringing along with him one (1) AR-18 (Elisco) bearing SN 035073, one (1) short steel magazine with eight (8) serviceable ammunition and two (2) anti-personnel landmines.

According to alias Jobert, he joined the terrorist organization out of his curiosity, aggressiveness and adventurism. Because of sweets talks and propaganda he was deceived by false promises that joining the NPA will be the hope in uplifting the lives of the poor and be the soldier of the masses.

Alias Jobert, decided to voluntary surrender to 36IB because of the miserable life he suffered inside the organization. He also realized that the NPA is fighting a lost cause, while their leaders are enjoying a better life through extortion and revolutionary taxes.

“Life there is so difficult, every day we roam in the mountains looking and seeking for answer on our cause. I voluntarily surrendered because I was afraid that maybe one day my life will be in danger and a possibility that someday I cannot see my family anymore,” he said

Said surrendered personality last contact with the NPA CTG was on May 26 2019.

In his statement, Ltc Xerxes Trinidad, Commanding Officer, 36IB said, that the surrender is the result of the military’s relentless combat operations against the CPP-NPA terrorists within the 36IB area of operation.

He further added that @Jobert voluntarily surrendered due to the miserable life he experienced inside the organization and the fear of neglecting his family just because of a failed cause without direction.

“The CTGs operating in the province of Surigao del Sur is in the verge of collapse as they are continuously losing their regular members and fighters. In this light, we call on to the remaining CTGs members to abandon their armed struggle and join the government in attaining a long lasting peace together with their loved ones”, Lt Col Trinidad concluded.

Alias Jobert is still under the custody of the 36IB and undergoing interview and debriefing. He will be processed and validated for his enrollment in the Enhance Comprehensive Local Integration Program (E-CLIP), the government’s intervention package for former rebels.
