IMPASUGONG, Bukidnon -- Troops from the 8th Infantry “Dependable” Battalion, Philippine Army recovered four high powered firearms as they stormed an estimated band of 40 members of the New People’s Army belonging to the SDG Dario, SRC2, NCMRC in a recent encounter in the hinterland of Barangay Busdi, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, recently.

After receiving information from the locals, the army troopers deliberately planned a focused military operation to destroy the NPA’s who are planning to do propaganda to recruit locals to support and join their armed struggle against the government, military sources said.

The military stormed them in the morning by bursts of gunfire prompting them to leave some of their firearms and ran for their lives.

Army troopers immediately occupied and secured the area. Military troops were able to recover an M1 Carbine, M1 Garrand, M16A1, and AK47.

After a thorough search in the area, an unexploded rifle grenade, 5 fully loaded magazines of AK47, 2 backpacks, and subversive documents were also recovered from the enemy hideout.

“It was covered with thick trees, we are on our way up and we noticed the enemy presence so I alerted my platoon,” said Lieutenant Carlee Pablo, the platoon leader.

“When confirmed that they were armed, we immediately fired at them and tried to outmaneuver but they ran,” he added.

Lieutenant Colonel Ronald Illana, commanding officer of the 8th Infantry Battalion commended the heroism of the “Dependable” troopers urging them to do their best in hunting down NPAs to save the community from their plan of recruitment.

“To the members of the SDG Dario of NCMRC, surrender now to the government and we will help you to go home to your families. The government prepared a program for you to make your life better and safer," he said.

Illana said the Philippine Army will not stop in pursuing the NPAs to cut down their recruitment. "The NPA is disintegrating and isolated, it is only a matter of time that they will be totally destroyed,” he added. (8th IB, PA)
