CAMP SIONGCO, Maguindanao – Two soldiers belonged to 57th Infantry Battalion were wounded in an explosion in Brgy. Bakat, Rajah Buayan Maguindanao yesterday afternoon.
The troops were conducting security operation at around 1:00 p.m. when an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded hitting PFC Narciso B. Monreal on his legs and stomach and Sgt. Archie L. Dema-ala on his arms.
The wounded soldiers were immediately brought at a hospital in Midsayap, North Cotabato for immediate medical treatment. They were declared out of danger and were brought to Camp Siongco Station Hospital here for their recuperation.
Meanwhile, another IED exploded in Brgy Brar, Datu Anggal Midtimbang, Maguindanao at around 7:25 p.m. No one was reported hurt during the blast.
Troops of 90 th Infantry Battalion responded in the area of explosion and coordinated the incident to 3 rd Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) of the Army.
When the 3 rd EOD team arrived in the area for post-blast investigation, another unexploded IED was found at 10:25 p.m. near the area of explosion. The IED was successfully disrupted without causing any harm to the residents near the area.
“The Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters are responsible for the series of bombing in Maguindanao as a result of our intensive military operation against the terror and lawless groups that are trying to disrupt the peace and security in Maguindanao,” 6th Infantry Division Commander Maj. Gen. Diosdadao Carreon said.
Another suspected (IED) was discovered Crossing Sigbul, Brgy. Sadsalan in Lambayong, Sultan Kudarat yesterday morning after two men riding a motorcycle left a sack at a roadside when they evaded a military and police checkpoint.
The government troops noticed that the riders turned back 150 meters away from the checkpoint area and throw the sack at a roadside.
Troops of 2 nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion and PNP-Lambayong immediately cordoned and checked the area left with sack. It was found out that it contained an 81mm mortar after evaluation from the PNP Explosive and Ordnance Disposal team.
“The mortar is believed to be used in making improvised explosive devices by the terror group Mindanao,” said Maj. Gen. Diosdado C. Carreon.
“I commend our government troops for their fast action to pre-empt possible bombing attempt in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat and I am urging our civilian counterparts to report immediately any suspicious things or persons to the authority,” Maj. Gen. Carreon
added.
