KIBAWE, Bukidnon — More than 300 residents benefited from the army’s “Hatid serbisyo para sa kapayapaan (Service for Peace)” through free medical and dental services recently in a far-off Cagawasan village of Kibawe, Bukidnon.

Simultaneously conducted during the mass surrender of rebel supporters in barangay Cagawasan, the “Hatid Serbisyo” adds up to a festive-occasion when the surrenderees solemnly commit to cut off the link and withdraw their aid to the
CPP-NPA by reciting the ‘pledge of commitment’ in unison and signing it afterward.

Barangay Cagawasan chairman Marissa Bayer who welcomed the surrendered insurgent supporters lauded the Philippine Army for the efforts.

“To the Philippine Army, thank you for your endless help and service. Today, we are all witnesses of the government’s integrity in fulfilling its duties. Rest assured the people of barangay Cagawasan will be working in harmony with our soldiers who work day and night just to keep our barangay safe,” Bayer said.

Residents, meanwhile, took their turns as they queue up to avail of the services such as tooth extraction, urinalysis, pre-natal checkup, immunization, haircut, distribution of medicines, family planning, and adolescent health consultation, among other services.

The “Hatid Serbisyo” served hundreds—mostly women and children.

Lieutenant Col. Franklin F. Fabic, commander of the 88th Infantry “Maringal” Battalion who facilitated the activity said the event aims to uplift lives in the neighborhood that could help attain peace and development in the community.

“We are your true soldiers; we are here to protect you. Your support and cooperation will bring us together to our yearning for a peaceful and comfortable life,” he said.

This event is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte’s call to end local communist armed conflict in the country as directed in Executive Order No. 70 (EO 70).

EO 70 aims to address the root causes of insurgency through the government’s focused, coordinated, and sustained delivery of basic services in poor, conflict-affected, and geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas.
