LANUZA, Surigao del Sur – Officials and residents of Brgy. Mampi, this municipality, have declared the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army Terrorist (CNT) and their organizations as persona non-grata.
Barangay Mampi of Lanuza, Surigao del Sur, a far-flung barangay and used to be a haven of CNT, is the first in the province to courageously condemn and declares the CNT as persona non-grata.
The previous CNT attacks and harassments to the community that resulted to the death of CADT 115 Chairman Datu Manuel Gardigo last 2015 and hog-tied all residents believed to be military supporters last 2016 have brought fear and trauma to the residents of Barangay Mampi.
Through the Community Support Program (CSP) immersion of 36IB, basic services of the government were delivered which created a harmonious relationship with the populace that resulted to the surrender of the 23 CNTs last March 2, 2018 and 64 CNT members and supporters on March 22, 2019 to the troops of 36IB, PA.
The mass surrender of the CNT members and supporters prompted the Sangguniang Barangay officials and tribal leaders to pass and adopt a resolution declaring the CNT terrorist and their front organizations as persona non-grata for its "criminal acts and violations of the International Humanitarian Law" on March 23, 2019.
The resolution said, Barangay Mampi will uphold its support and allegiance to the government and renounces its affiliation to any CPP-NPA organizations for them to live a normal life. Also, organizations conducting any activities in their community should pay a courtesy call to the barangay officials and tribal leaders for approval.
LTC Xerxes Trinidad, Commanding Officer of 36IB, expresses his support to the Local Government Unit of Barangay Mampi, Lanuza, Surigao del Sur. "This initiative of Barangay Mampi is a manifestation that they were already awakened of the deceitful plans and motives of the CNTs," Trinidad said.
