Today is the 15th year death anniversary of Moro Islamic Liberation Front ( MILF) founding Chairman Sheik Salamat Hashim ( Allah yarhamo) that coincides the last day of Bicameral Conference Committee deliberations on BBL that will answer the Bangsamoro question.

The Bicameral Conference on BBL started on July 9 -.13 at Crowne Plaza Manila Galleria, Ortigas and House of Congress in Batasan that aimed to reconcile the two versions approved by the two chambers.

Salamat was born on July 7, 1942 in the Municipality of Pagalungan, Maguindanao from a family of seven.

He went underground on September 24, 1972 four days after late dictator Ferdinand Marcos declared Martial Law amid worsening socio - economic and political problems.

In 1970, he organized the Moro National Liberation Front ( MNLF) together with a marxist student activist Nur Misuari and other Muslim militants.

Known only but to few that he was responsible for covertly arranging the military training of the first batch of cadres ( Top 90 ) that was to become the military core group of the Moro National Liberation Front ( MNLF).

He had a falling out with Misuari in the late 70s that led a breakaway group with 57 MNLF in August 1977 to pursue a separate state base on Islamic principles.

The group was initially known as " The New Leadership ". He moved his new organization to Cairo, Egypt and then to Lahore, Pakistan in 1980 where it engaged in diplomatic activities and formally established Moro Islamic Liberation Front ( MILF) in 1984.

Sheik Salamat Hashim died on July 13, 2003 from complications from heart ailment and acute ulcer and buried the same day in Butig, Lanao del Sur. He was 70 years old.

The legacy of this great leader of Bangsamoro will never be forgotten. His words of wisdom already inculcated in the heart and minds of every Bangsamoro when he said, " Even if I die, the next generation will continue the struggle. I have planted the seed of Jihad in the heart of the Bangsamoro."

In one of his previous interviews done by Islamic publication in 2001, he said, " Give us back the freedom and independence, which forcibly usurped from our people, and there will be just and lasting peace in Mindanao. It is simple as that. "

In commemoration of his death that coincides the last day of Bicam deliberations, the Bangsamoro people are praying that the Bicam committee members could pass a BBL that are acceptable and within the letter and spirit of the Comprehensive Agreement on Bangsamoro ( CAB ) that was signed between the MILF and the government on March 27, 2014.
