Press Release
The Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) reiterated its firm rejection of the pretend “localized peace talks” being pursued by the Duterte regime.
“To the power-fuddled brains in Malacañang – rejection might feel alien to the ‘Yes’-men like you, but a ‘no’ is a no,” the CPP said in response to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque’s statement wherein he said that the Duterte regime’s offer for “localized peace talks is for “fighting insurgents on the ground and not to their alleged leaders living comfortable lives in Europe.”
“To Duterte, we repeat: The entire leadership of the CPP in the Philippines, along with the national command of the New People’s Army (NPA) and all revolutionary forces under the National Democratic Front of the Philippines (NDFP)– from Luzon to Mindanao–firmly reject this pretend ‘localized’ peace talks,” the CPP stressed.
“The broad masses demand not ‘local peace talks’ but an end to Duterte’s total war against civilians, the aerial bombings, the military occupation of communities, the sham campaign of forcing people to enlist as ‘surrenderers,’ widespread killings and other abuses,” said the CPP. “The people are being roused to arms by Duterte’s Oplan Kapayapaan.”
“In fact, a number of local commands of the NPA across the country have already expressly rejected Duterte’s pretend peace talks. Other regional and local commands of the NPA are set to issue their own statements,” said the CPP. “The entire NPA and all revolutionary forces are firmly united under the CPP’s central leadership directive to reject so-called ‘local peace talks’.”
Duterte’s pretend peace talks are set to completely fail. Even Mayor Sara Duterte of Davao City has given up on her pet project of local peace talks knowing how foolish she would appear talking to her own shadow, the CPP added.
“Roque vainly hopes to sow intrigue among the revolutionary forces by harping on the worn-out fairy tale about the ‘comfortable lives’ of the NDFP’s representatives abroad, when in fact, it is he and his fellow bureaucrats with fat wallets in Malacañang who are so alienated from Philippine realities.”
