From the Manila Bulletin (Jun 28): PNP slams burning of motorcycles in Butuan City
BUTUAN CITY – The regional command of Northeastern Mindanao Police Regional Office3 13 (PRO 13) on Thursday condemned the recent atrocity by the Communist New People’s Army Terrorists when they torched five motorcycles owned by a police officer and army soldiers in Sitio Kauswagan, Barangay San Mateo, Butuan City, Monday afternoon.
The troops of the Army’s 23rd Infantry Battalion (23rd IB) and 13 Regional Mobile Force Battalion (13th RMFBn) are stationed in Sitio Kauswagan for Community Service Patrolling but left the area to attend the seminar at the headquarters of 23th IB in Buenavista, Agusan del Norte.
Five armed communists clad in Army uniform burned a Honda CB 110 and four Honda XRM 125 motorcycles at the basketball court around 1 p.m. on Monday.
“Our investigation is underway to identify the suspects for filing of charges against them,” PRO 13 Regional Director Chief Supt. Noli A. Romana said.
“We urge the community to resist the deception of NPA rebels who pretend to be protectors of the people but are involved in various crimes like murder and arson,” the region’s police chief said, in a statement sent to The Manila Bulletin.
Three days ago, the CNTs under the Guerilla Front Committee 16 (GFC 16) ambushed three CAA members while riding on a motorcycle heading to their detachment in Barangay Hinimbangan, Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte, killing two of the militiamen, PRO 13 report said.
“We are calling the peace-loving Caraganons to report the presence of the rebels to the nearest police or army unit and let us join our efforts together to suppress the insurgency in the region,” Chief Supt. Romana added.
