A military report disclosed that the encounter happened at about 3:25 p.m. at Brgy. Carmen, Baguio District, Davao City.

Troops from the 3rd Infantry Battalion were on patrol when they encountered 30 CNTs believed to be members of the Pulang Bagani Command 2 and 3, Southern Mindanao Regional Command (SMRC) under “Bobby”.

The encounter lasted for about two hours which resulted in the death of two CNT members and wounding of a government soldier.

An improvised explosive device or IED was recovered in the encounter site.

The wounded soldier was taken to Camp Panacan Hospital for medical treatment.

Helicopters flew from the Tactical Operations Group (TOG) 11 and proceeded to the encounter area to provide air artillery to the engaged troops.

At about 5:34 p.m. of the same day, while said troops were scouring the encounter site, another encounter ensued with the CNTs. The sporadic firefight lasted for about five minutes.

Major General Noel S. Clement, commander of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, commended the troops for their accomplishment and said that the “NPA terrorists are not welcome in a ‘cleared’ barangay.

“With this, their (rebels) resurgence was immediately reported to us. We are grateful to the people of Barangay Carmen for their continued support and cooperation in maintaining peace and order,” Clement said.
