A trooper was killed following an encounter with an estimated 20 members of the Maute Group in Lanao Del Sur Monday afternoon, Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said.

During the firefight, Tan said one soldier from the 1st Scout Ranger Company was killed while an undetermined number of terrorists were killed or wounded.

Government forces continue to pursue the Maute Group for its attack on Butig which started Nov. 26.
A six-day military offensive drove the terrorists from the town Dec. 1.

Tan said troops recovered a rocket-propelled grenade, an undetermined number of RPG munition, and a steel chainsaw.

"As of Dec. 6, 7 a.m., fire missions were delivered to enemy locations. The enemy has, to date, incurred 63 killed and 17 wounded, while the troops suffered one killed and 38 wounded in action," he added.

In a related development, a firearm, assorted war and explosive materials were seized by joint police and military operations against Farhana Maute, the mother of the founder of the Maute Group, during operations in Butig town, Lanao Del Sur 1:30 a.m. Tuesday.

Tan said the Regional Public Safety Battalion and the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group supported by the 65th Infantry Battalion under the Joint Task Force ZamPeLan participated in the operation.

An armed confrontation ensued, resulting in the wounding of a police officer, while undetermined on the enemy, he added.
