From the Philippine News Agency (Dec 7): 1 soldier killed, 1 wounded in Lanao Del Sur clash Wednesday
Another member of the 1st Scout Ranger Company was killed while another one was wounded following a clash with an estimated 60 members of the Maute Group in Lanao Del Sur Wednesday morning.
Western Mindanao Command Spokesperson Major Filemon Tan said the incident took place around 7:10 a.m. at Barangay Sandab, Butig town.
"An armed confrontation ensued, resulting in the death of a soldier and wounding of another," Tan said.
Government forces are pursuing the Maute Group for its attack on Butig which started Nov. 26. A six-day military offensive drove the terrorists from the town on Dec. 1.
To date, 63 members of the Maute Group were killed and 17 wounded, while the troops suffered two killed and 39 wounded.
