The province of Quezon is now a Conflict Manageable Area and Ready for Development with the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on Sept. 8, 2016 between Governor David “Jayjay” C. Suarez and the Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC) during the meeting held at the Bulwagan Kalilayan in this city.

According to a report received on Saturday, the meeting discussed the problems of the province related to illegal drugs, illegal fishing, illegal gambling and illegal logging.

Suarez asked for the total number of drug users in the province in order to provide ways in resolving the drug problem.

It was reported that of the total 1,646 members of the PPOC who took the mandatory drug testing, one was found positive of illegal drug use and is now under investigation.

The Governor requested the Philippine National Police (PNP) to intensify its campaign against illegal logging and expected results of their actions on the next meeting.

Likewise, it was requested from the Provincial Legislative Council, represented by Board Member Dominic Reyes, the heads of the PNP, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Maritime Police, all the mayors and selected individuals to support the campaign against illegal fishing.

It was also reported that crime incidence showed a decrease from January to August in 2016 as compared with the crime incidence of the same period in 2015.

Suarez lauded the members of the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) and the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) in their efforts to prevail over the insurgency in the province.

He concluded by announcing the planned allocation of Php 100-million fund to establish the Quezon Complex and Niyogyugan Village in a 5-10 hectare lot.
