Riyadh-Saudi preacher and diplomat Sheikh Aaidh al-Qarni announced that the results of investigations on the attempted assassination he recently faced in Philippines have finally come out.

The kingdom’s ambassador to the Philippines Abdullah al-Bussairy had informed Qarni that the student who had staged the attempted murder had studied in Qom, Iran.

The well-known Saudi scholar sustained gunshot injuries in the Philippine city of Zamboanga earlier in March, after an assailant had fired at him while he was traveling in a car along with others. The assailant was later killed in an exchange of fire with the security forces.

Qarni told Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper that some revelations concerning the incident are yet to come, however, will only be announced after an official statement is issued by authorities in the Philippines.

In a phone interview, Sheikh Qarni said he learnt from Bussairi that eight Saudi intelligence agents have concluded that the perpetrator, a university student, had received a visa invitation from a high-profile figure in Qom. The student was enrolled at a new start-up Iran proxy group in the Philippines.

Qarni made mention of Iranian influence advancing across the region, posing great threats. He said that the authoritarian country is able to reach out to wherever it wishes, hiring moles anywhere across the world.

The only place where Iran’s tools seems helpless is in Yemen, after Gulf states having successfully launched military operations – such as the Decisive Storm and the Restoration of Hope- curbing its expansion.

Cornered in Yemen, Iran is rendered unable to take further action given that it will be faced with condemnation from both the international and world-wide Muslim community.

Iran continues pushing forward with its agenda for the region by exploiting moles, paramilitary armed movements and defectors who conspire and plot assassinations, said Qarni.
