The Ilocos Sur-based 81st Infantry Battalion has deployed 60
troops in strategic locations in Ilocor Sur and La Union to help the Philippine
National Police (PNP) in securing communities against illegal drugs, violence
and criminalities.
This is in line with the "State of National Emergency
on Account of Lawless Violence" declared by President Rodrigo Duterte in
wake of the bombing attacks in Davao City which killed 14 and wounded more than
60 persons last Sept. 2.
"This is to complement and support the PNP and other
law enforcement agencies in our campaign against illegal drugs to help suppress
violence and criminalities in these provinces," said 81st Infantry
Battalion commander Lt. Col. Eugenio Julio Osias.
Prior to the deployment, the unit coordinated with local
chief executives, PNP and other law enforcement agencies within the 81st
Infantry Battalion area-of-responsibility.
Security operations are conducted in the areas like parks,
bus terminals, national highways and other places where people conglomerate.
