CAMP SIONCGO, Maguindanao — There is newly built hostel inside this Army camp which has a big function room where visiting military officials and national dignitaries can hold peace dialogues essential in furthering the Mindanao peace process, something first in the history of the Philippine military.

The hostel, named El Rajah’s Place, is located at the southern side of the cantonment area of the 200-hectare military reservation where Camp Siongco is located.

The Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (ARMM) government bankrolled the construction of the facility, the first ever in an Army camp in Mindanao, for visiting military officials to have a safe place to stay.

The three-story hostel, built by Army engineers, was jointly inaugurated on Saturday by ARMM Gov. Mujiv Hataman and Army Major Gen.Edmundo Pangilinan.

“The 6th ID is thankful to the ARMM for this project,” said Pangilinan, now outgoing commander of the 6th Infantry Division (6th ID).

Pangilinan has just been named vice commander of the Philippine Army by President Rodrigo Duterte.

Pangilinan said El Rajah’s Place shall also be open to non-military guests and members of the media from other parts of the country.

The 6th ID covers the provinces of Maguindanao and Lanao del Sur, which are both in ARMM, and North Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat and Cotabato City, which are under Administrative Region 12 (Soccsksargen).
