As part of the present administration's continuing
commitment to modernize and enhance the capability of the Philippine National
Police (PNP), the PNP has acquired 398 more mobile assets that can be utilized
as general dispatch or service vehicle for administrative functions,
surveillance, training and other command activities.
According to PNP Spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wilben M.
Mayor, 40 units of the Mahindra Scorpio Light Transport Vehicle have been
delivered and are now ready for distribution to Directorial Staff Offices and
National Support Units, while the remaining 358 units will be distributed to
Police Regional Offices and Regional Offices of National Support Units.
Mayor said that the PNP allotted PHP349,444,000.00 from its
2014 Capability Enhancement Program (CEP) to fund the contract for the
procurement 398 units of Mahindra Scorpio at a unit price of PHP878,000.
The supply contract was formalized by the PNP and Columbian
Autocars Corporation last Dec. 10, 2015.
The 9-seater Mahindra Scorpion is powered by a 4-cylinder,
2400cc diesel engine that delivers 73 horsepower at 14 kg-m torque.
Mahindra Scorpio is manufactured by the same manufacturer of
the Mahindra Enforcer that is currently in service in the PNP.
The procurement of additional mobility assets for police
stations and different PNP units will improve police visibility and respond to
any eventuality especially in crime prone areas. The patrol jeeps can also be
used during relief and rescue operations, Internal Security Operation (ISO) and
other related activities.
Likewise, it is envisioned that all municipal and city
police stations/offices in the PNP shall have at least one vehicle for their
police operations.
