Five days of intense fighting between government troops pounding the lair in Lanao del Sur of a a self-proclaimed armed group claiming support for the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) have claimed the lives of at least two soldiers and 54 members of the Maute group.  

Major Filemon Tan, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom), said Monday "the series of encounters resulted in two killed-in-action and 9 wounded-in-action for the government side; while 54 were killed on the (lawless armed group) based on intelligence reports."

The troops "continue to advance towards the enemy stronghold and defeat the LTGs in the area,” Tan said.

Government troops - mainly from the 103rdn Infantry Brigade, the police and Philippine Air Force - have penetrated the defense line in Barangay Bagayan, Butig town of the Maute Group, tagged as “responsible for the beheading of two civilians in the area.”
According to Tan, “the troops continue to advance towards the enemy stronghold and defeat the terrorist group in the area.”
