An estimated 54 members of Maute Terrorist Group has been reported killed in wake of the ongoing military offensive which started last May 26 in Butig town, Lanao Del Sur.

This was stressed by Western Mindanao Command spokesperson Major Filemon Tan in statement Monday.

The assaults against the terrorist group, which was being spearheaded by the 103rd Infantry Brigade and units of the Philippine Air Force, stemmed from the bandits' brutal beheading of two civilians in the locality, he added.

"The series of encounters resulted in two KIA (killed in action) and nine WIA (wounded in action) for the government side while 54 were killed on the LTG (local terrorist group) based on intelligence reports. The troops continue to advance towards the enemy stronghold and defeat the LTGs in the area," Tan stressed.
