From Update.Ph (Apr 3): Japan seeks greater cooperation to ensure peaceful West Philippine Sea
Japan will seek further cooperation with other Asian countries to ensure stability in the South China Sea (West Philippine Sea), Defense Minister Gen Nakatani said Sunday, amid territorial disputes between China and a number of countries in the region.
“It is important for the international community to work together to ensure that the seas are open, free and peaceful,” Nakatani told reporters in Kochi Prefecture.
Earlier in the day, a Japanese submarine and two destroyers made a port call in the Philippines as part of a voyage to train Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force officers and foster goodwill with the country.
