From the Sun Star-Bacolod (Apr 4): Cafgu, 2 others killed in shooting incidents
THREE persons, including a member of a paramilitary force, were killed while two others were injured in three separate shooting incidents in Negros Occidental over the weekend.
The fatality in Cauayan town was identified as Roberto “Bobby” Morales, 44, of Barangay Camalandaan, an active member of the Citizen Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu).
Inspector Jaynick Bermudez, deputy police chief of the Negros Occidental Police Office, said Morales was allegedly shot dead by Reynald Febreo, 21, a member of the New People’s Army (NPA), during a fiesta on Saturday, April 2.
Morales sustained a gunshot wound in his chest, Bermudez said.
Investigators recounted that the victim’s family heard multiple gunshot wounds outside their house, prompting them to go out and investigate. They then saw Febreo, who had apparently just shot Morales, along with three other companions.
Family members were able to subdue, disarm, and stab the suspect, who was then brought to a hospital.
Police have secured the suspect in his hospital room.
Investigators are considering revenge as a possible motive. Morales and his team were believed to have killed a suspected NPA leader in January.
In another incident, a woman was gunned down while her husband was injured after unidentified men shot them at Sitio Gabon-Gabon, Calatrava town Friday afternoon, April 1.
Police identified the fatality as Adelaida Labrador, 56, and her husband, Francisco Labrador, 67, both of Sitio Malabago, Barangay Tigbao.
The couple was on their way home after attending their child’s graduation when the assailants fired at them.
Superintendent Gil Flores, town police chief, said the woman was wounded in her chest and head while her husband sustained a wound in his left leg.
Police believe that the shooting may have stemmed from a misunderstanding that the victims were involved in.
Over at Bago City, a man was also shot to death at Barangay Dulao, Sunday morning.
The victim was identified as Ofresenio Montua, 43.
Montua’s partner Marile Garcia said over Aksyon Radyo Bacolod that the suspect may have been a disgruntled employee whose salary Montua withheld due to the suspect’s dues.
Montua sustained a gunshot wound in his stomach.
A suspect has been detained at the Bago City Police Station.
