JOLO, Sulu (DWDD) – The First Scout Ranger Battalion, First Scout Ranger Regiment, Special Operations Command, Philippine Army has been adjudged as the best performer of the Joint Task Group Sulu (JTGS) in terms of focused military operations covering the period 01 October 2014 to 05 April 2016.
It has had nine (9) major encounters against the Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) resulting in the neutralization/death of seventy-three (73) ASG members as validated by the Joint Intelligence Task Unit of the JTGS, the recovery of six (6) high-powered firearms, and the rescue of three (3) kidnap victims—Swiss national Lorenzo Vinciguerra, and Philippine Coast Guard personnel SN2 Gringo Villaruz and SN1 Rod Pagaling.
For this achievement, the First Scout Ranger Battalion was awarded the JTGS Commander’s Unit Award as the Best Battalion in the JTGS’s Joint Area of Operations during the stint of Brigadier General Alan R Arrojado AFP as Commander from 01 October 2014 to 05 April 2016.
