CAMP GUILLERMO NAKAR, Lucena City (DWDD) – AFP Southern Luzon Command operations foiled NPA atrocities when at least three (3) NPAs were killed, eight (8) high powered firearms that includes two (2) M60 machine guns and 34 Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs) were recovered, Monday (March 21), in separate operations in Camarines Sur and Oriental Mindoro.

In the 1st District of Camarines Sur, the 902nd Infantry Brigade under Brigadier General Amador T. Tabuga launched an operation targeting NPAs believed to be planning an attack on a military patrol base.

M-16 A1 Rifle

The operation led to a 45-minute firefight between the troops of 49th Infantry Battalion against a still undetermined number of NPAs in Barangay San Rafael Norte, Lupi, Camarines Sur at 5:55 p.m. resulting on at least two (2) NPAs killed, recovery of one (1) M60 machine gun, one (1) M16 rifle and several rounds of ammunition.

Also, troops sent on clearing operations recovered one (1) M14 rifle in Barangay Belwang, Lupi, Camarines Sur at 10:30 p.m. same day.

At 6:30 a.m. of March 22, 2016, clearing operations at the encounter site yielded one (1) KG9 rifle and 28 IEDs.

IEDs

In the 4th District of Camarines Sur, 901st Infantry Brigade Commander Brigadier General Claudio L. Yucot launched an operation to thwart NPAs planning an attack on another military patrol base in Caramoan town.

At 12:15 p.m. troops from “A” Company, 83rd Infantry Battalion and a quad of CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAA) engaged 15 NPAs in a 15–minute firefight in Barangay Antolon of Caramoan, Camarines Sur that resulted on one (1) NPA killed and recovery of two (2) M16 rifles, one (1) grenade launcher and six (6) IEDs.

Meanwhile, the clearing operations of the 203rd Infantry Brigade under Colonel Gavin D. Edjawan yielded one (1) M60 machine gun in Barangay Morente in Bongabon, Oriental Mindoro.

M14 Rifle

AFP Southern Luzon Command Chief Lieutenant General Visaya has given marching orders to the troops to continue the fight and hit deeper the NPAs in their lairs and neutralize them.

SOLCOM is also optimistic that the on-going operations will yield positive results “I commend the outstanding leadership of our commanders with their dedication and commitment to serve the country and people,” said Lieutenant General Visaya.

“Also key to the success of the operations is the cooperation of the masses,” he added. Lieutenant General Visaya described the encounters as temporary in pursuit of an all-out peace in the region. “We want to put an end to the fears and sufferings of the people living in the countryside,” said Lieutenant General Visaya. “We want the people live a happy life,” he said.
