From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 22): President Aquino announces more projects lined up for Basilan




President Benigno Simeon Aquino III has announced that millions of pesos worth of infrastructure projects have been lined up for this province.

The President made this announcement during his visit to to this town on Monday, where he spearheaded the inauguration of the 131.18-kilometer Basilan Circumferential Road (BCR).

Mr. Aquino said the concreting of the Basilan Transcentral Road (BTR) Phase I covering 21 kilometers is ongoing. The project cost is PhP252 million.

The BTR links one town to the other passing through the center of the province while the BCR is the major road that links all the municipalities and cities of this province.

Phase I of the BTR started from the highway in Barangay Sta. Clara to Barangay Bohe Nange in Lamitan City to the barangays of Kapatagan Small, Kapatagan Grande and Masola in Isabela City.

President Aquino said Phase II of the BTR covering 34.30 kilometers worth PhP806.05 million is scheduled for bidding.

The second phase is from the highway in Barangay Lower Mahayahay to Upper Mahayahay in Maluso town to Masola in Isabela City and then to Sampinit, Punoh Mahadji, Dahingan, Tumahubong in this municipality.

Once completed, the President said the travel from this town to Isabela City will be shortened by one hour while it will just take 45 minutes from Maluso to Isabela City.

The President said the concreting of almost 20 kilometers road from the municipality of Al-Barka to Tipo-Tipo town is completed.

He said the national government has also allocated PhP274.61 million for the construction of farm-to-market-roads and water system projects in this province.

For the fishery sector, President Aquino said PhP67.7 million has been allocated for the construction of municipal fish ports and community fish landing centers.

These projects will be constructed in this municipality and in the towns of Maluso, Akbar, Hadji Mohamad Ajul, Lantawan, Tabuan Lasa, Ungkaya Pukan, Tipo-Tipo as well as in Lamitan City.

The President said so far, the national government through the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) has allocated PhP14.85 billion from 2011 to 2016 for infrastructure projects in this province.
