Troopers from the Southern Luzon Command (SOLCOM) have killed three New People's Army (NPA) bandits and recovered eight high-powered weapons, including an M-60 light machine guns, and 34 improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during separate operations in Camarines Sur and Oriental Mindoro on Monday and Tuesday.

In the 1st District of Camarines Sur, the 902nd Infantry Brigade under Brig. Gen. Amador Tabuga launched an operation targeting NPAs believed to be planning an attack on a military patrol base.

The operation led to a 45-minute firefight between the troops of 49th Infantry Battalion against a still undetermined number of NPAs in Barangay San Rafael Norte, Lupi, Camarines Sur at 5:55 p.m. which resulted in the death of two NPAs and recovery of one M-60 machine gun, an M-16 automatic rifle and several rounds of rounds of ammunition.

Also, troops on clearing operations recovered an M-14 rifle in Barangay Belwang, Lupi, Camarines Sur at 10:30 p.m. of the same day.

At 6:30 a.m. Tuesday, clearing operations at the encounter site yielded one K-G9 rifle and 28 IEDs.

In the 4th District of Camarines Sur, 901st Infantry Brigade commander Brig. Gen. Claudio L. Yucot launched an operation to thwart NPAs planning an attack on another military patrol base in Caramoan town.

At 12:15 p.m., troops from “A” Company, 83rd Infantry Battalion and a squad of CAFGU Active Auxiliaries (CAA) engaged 15 NPAs in a 15–minute firefight in Barangay Antolon of Caramoan, Camarines Sur that resulted on one NPA killed and recovery of two M16 rifles, one grenade launcher and six IEDs.

Meanwhile, the clearing operations of the 203rd Infantry Brigade under Col. Gavin Edjawan yielded one M-60 machine gun in Barangay Morente in Bongabon, Oriental Mindoro.

SOLCOM head Lt. Gen. Ricardo Visaya has given marching orders to the troops to continue the fight and hit deeper the NPAs in their lairs and neutralize them.

SOLCOM is also optimistic that the on-going operations will yield positive results.

“I commend the outstanding leadership of our commanders with their dedication and commitment to serve the country and people,” Visaya said.

“Also key to the success of the operations is the cooperation of the masses,” he added.
