From DWDD AFP Civil Relations Service Radio Website (Mar 10): DEFENDERS II Soldiers Protect Community from NPAs in Malaybalay
CAMP OSITO D BAHIAN, Malaybalay City, Bukidnon (DWDD) – A fire fight between the Philippine Army and New People’s Army (NPA) rebels occurred on March 9, 2016 at about twelve o’clock in the afternoon at the vicinity of Sitio Baganao, Barangay Kibalabag, this city .
Soldiers of Alpha Company, 8th Infantry (Dependable) Battalion while conducting security operation chanced upon the NPA rebels believed to be members of Sentro De Grabidad (SDG) Dario, Section Committee 89 of North Central Mindanao Regional Committee (NCMRC) under Noel Gabute aka Cesar. After five minutes of intense fire fight, the NPAs withdrew towards different direction. There was no reported casualty on the government troops as they pursued the rebel group believed to have suffered some casualties when they withdrew.
The security operation was prompted by reports from concerned citizens regarding the presence of rebel group in the area. This is the second encounter for this year in the north eastern part of Malaybalay City.
Colonel Jesse A Alvarez, Commander of the 403rd (Peacemaker) Brigade said, “Our continous security operation is meant to protect the communities and the populace especially those in the hinterland barangays from NPA’s threat and intimidation, and extortion as well. The people in these areas are already fed up with NPA’s terror tactics”.
