ILOILO CITY (DWDD) – Soldiers of 61st Infantry Battalion extended medical assistance to a suspected lawless element that was wounded in an encounter in a remote village in Maasin, Iloilo.
The troops intercepted Rey Mirante in Brgy Trangka, and found out that he has wound on his back, so they applied first aid to prevent loss of blood while waiting for the ambulance. Due to the difficult terrain in said village, Mirante was transported via an Army truck KM250 and he was then brought to a hospital in Iloilo City for proper medical treatment.
Lt. Col. Leonardo Peña, Commanding Officer of 61IB, said the situation in the area is already peaceful.
“Peace and order in Brgy Trangka in Maasin and adjacent barangays is back to normal. Our troops are still in the area to secure the communities against lawless armed elements. We continue our pursuit operations and we will ensure that the rule of law will be followed,” Peña said.
Colonel Eric Uchida, commander of the Army’s 301st Infantry (Bayanihan) Brigade that supervises the Army forces in Panay meanwhile stressed that the peace and security situation in Iloilo province is very manageable and the lawless armed elements’ activities are confined in the hinterland barangays.
“The people have manifested their desire to preserve the peace in the communities and once and for all move their province towards sustainable development,” Col. Uchida said.
For his part, Brig. Gen. Harold Cabreros, commander of the 3rd Infantry Division, Philippine Army, reiterated his call for all stakeholders to continue to foster the culture of “Bayanihan” which has made significant progress in the stability of peace and security in the region. 3DPAO / MCAG
