2 soldiers killed in Sulu ambush

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 15): 2 soldiers killed in Sulu ambush

The military have launched pursuit operation against a group of Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG) brigands who killed two soldiers in an ambush early Tuesday in the province of Sulu.

Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado, Joint Task Group Sulu commander, said all units have also be alerted for possible reinforcement to the pursuing troops.

Arrojado disclosed the ambush took place around 8:10 a.m. in Sitio Tibongbong, Barangay Igasan, Patikul, Sulu.

Arrojado did not release the identities of the slain soldiers, pending notification of the nearest kin, except to say they were intelligence operatives of the Army’s 10th Infantry Battalion (IB).

He said the victims were aboard a motorcycle traversing along the municipal service road when ASG brigands led by sub-leader Morasil Mudjahirin ambushed them.

He said the victims died on the spot. They are returning to the 10th IB headquarters coming from a meeting in Barangay Taglibi, Patikul, when they were ambushed.

He said 10th IB troops responded to the crime scene and launched pursuit operation against the group of Mudjahirin.
