Trooper killed, another hurt in Oriental Mindoro clash

From the Philippine News Agency (Mar 15): Trooper killed, another hurt in Oriental Mindoro clash

A soldier from the 4th Infantry Battalion was killed while another was wounded during an encounter with an estimated 30 New People's Army (NPA) bandits in Bongabong town, Oriental Mindoro noontime Tuesday.

Southern Luzon Command spokesperson Lt. Col. Angelo Guzman said government forces were on routine patrol when they encountered the NPA band at Barangay Hagan.

In the ensuing clash, a trooper was killed while another one was wounded along with an undetermined number of rebel casualties.

"We've been tracking this NPA group since November 2014. Since our troops made contact with them today, we will not stop until we get them all," Guzman added.

Pursuit operations are ongoing as Air Force helicopters inserted additional troops in the area to contain the fleeing rebels.
