A New People's Army (NPA) bandit was killed while another
one was wounded during a clash with 46th Infantry Battalion troopers in
Pantukan town, Compostela
Valley on Tuesday
afternoon.
In the same encounter, a soldier, identified as Cpl. Boskie
Carcellar, was wounded in the chest.
Capt. Rhyan Batchar, 10th Infantry Division spokesperson,
said a rebel M-16 automatic rifle was also captured.
He added government troops were pursuing NPA remnants in the
area when they chanced upon 20 NPAs at Sitio Post 4, Barangay Tagdangua,
Pantukan at 4:00 p.m.
This triggered a 20-minute gun-battle which resulted in the
wounding of Carcellar and wounding of two rebels.
Pursuit operations resulted in the death of Ronel Paas, 35,
a resident of Lower Lahi , Purok 6, Magnaga,
Pantukan.
Another rebel, who is a minor, was injured in the clash.
Paas, who has a gunshot wound on his chest, was pronounced
dead-on-arrival at the hospital while the minor rebel, who has a gunshot wound
on his lower left leg was brought to Camp
Panacan Station
Hospital in Davao City
along with Carcellar.
Batchar said they are now coordinating with the Department
of Social Welfare and Development and Commission Human Rights to look into the
case of the minor rebel, who can be considered as a "child soldier"
recruited by the rebels.
