The police and military forces had been ordered to tighten security measures in Lamitan City, Basilan province.

Lamitan City Mayor Rosita Furigay issued the order after an improvised explosive device (IED) exploded Monday night while another was recovered in that city.

Chief Insp. Gean Gallardo, Lamitan City police chief, said the explosion occurred around 9:20 p.m. Monday at the main entrance of the port terminal in Barangay Kulay Bato.

Gallardo said no one was either killed or wounded during the explosion except for the water tank and window glasses that were destroyed.

Gallardo said the other IED, which failed to explode, was recovered in front of the police station in Barangay Matibay, Lamitan City.

He said the IED was lobbed by an unidentified person aboard a motorcycle around 7 p.m. Monday.

He said investigation is ongoing in a bid to unmask the people behind the incident.

Meanwhile, Furigay has appealed the LamiteƱos to be vigilant but calm and to immediately report the presence of unattended baggage as well as people acting suspiciously in their respective communities.
