An arms cache, belonging to fleeing Abu Sayyaf Group (ASG)
bandits under sub-commander Idr Alhabsy Misaya, was seized by troopers from
Joint Task Group Sulu Tuesday afternoon.
This took place at 4:45 p.m. at Barangay Guimbaon, Luuk
town.
Joint Task Group Sulu commander Brig. Gen. Alan Arrojado
said troopers from the 35th Infantry Battalion were conducting clearing
operations in the area when they stumbled upon an abandoned hut containing the
arms cache.
Seized were an M-16 automatic rifle and a magazine
containing 20 bullets; an extended aluminum M-16 magazine; two plastic M-16
magazines; a 40mm grenade; three bandoliers and the lower garment of a battle
uniform.
Witnesses said the bandits abandoned their weapons upon
learning that government troops were about to conduct "focused military
operations" in nearby Kalinggalang, Caluang.
Pursuit operations are still ongoing.
