From the Philippine News Agency (Jan 19): Trooper hurt in Negros Occidental clash with rebels

A trooper from the 11th Infantry Battalion was wounded during an encounter with 20 New People's Army (NPA) in Himamaylan, Negros Occidental Monday afternoon.

The incident took place 3:50 p.m. at Sitio Cantupa, Barangay Buenavista of the above-mentioned locality.

Major Ray Tiongson, 3rd Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said government troopers were on security patrol when fired upon by the rebel band, wounding Pfc. Ronald Dejilla in both legs.

An undetermined number of NPAs were believed killed and wounded in the encounter which lasted 15 minutes.
