To ensure that all security preparations for the coming
Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Leaders Meeting are up and running,
the Philippine National Police (PNP) announced it will be holding a full-scale
exercise this coming Saturday.
This was disclosed by PNP chief Director General Ricardo
Marquez in a press briefing Wednesday held at the Multi-Agency Coordination
Center (MACC) is located One Esplanade, MOA Pasay City.
This will start 2 a.m. so that the public will not be
inconvenienced, he added.
This will include convoy runs and other security measures.
Marquez declined to comment on how long the activity will
last.
He said there are no specific security threats for the
moment.
And regarding the security concerns of the Chinese
Ambassador regarding hostile rallyists, the PNP chief assured the former that
they have sufficient police to secure them at all times.
Sought for a comment to assess the readiness of the security
force, Marquez said that "we are very confident that we have put up a good
security plan, we have covered 36 events already. we are bringing the best
people in those 36 events. We have gathered the best practices. Our people
learned on the job and this in the final show (and) so we are very confident
our security preparedness is excellent."
For his part, Interior and Local Government Secretary Mel
Senen Sarmiento said that all systems go for security preparations this coming
APEC summit.
He appealed to the public for understanding for some
inconveniences during the APEC summit.
Earlier, Joint Task Force-National Capital Region (JTF-NCR)
deputy commander Col. Vic Tomas said no untoward threats will mar the APEC meet
which will start Nov. 17 to 20.
He added they are constantly monitoring and coordinating
with their local and international counterparts to prevent this aside from
beefing up their security preparations.
"(Ongoing now are) continuous coordination, rehearsal,
testing of capabilities of (various) task units and of course, how fast we can
we respond to any crisis situations," Tomas stressed.
And when asked about the worse case scenarios, the JTF-NCR
chief said they are looking and preparing for the so-called CBRNE or chemical
biological radiological nuclear and explosives risk.
Add to these threats are earthquakes and other natural
calamities.
But Tomas said that they are studying and preparing for all
these eventualities as this is the prudent thing to do under the so-called
" full spectrum risk management preparedness protocols".
