Soldiers overrun NPA camp in Albay

From the Manila Times (Nov 11): Soldiers overrun NPA camp in Albay

Composite troops of soldiers and Regional Public Safety Battalion of the Philippine National Police overrun the New People’s Army (NPA) encampment in a remote village of Moroponros in Oas, Albay and captured two of its members, a report said Wednesday.

Lt. Col. Perfecto Peñaredondo, commanding officer of the Army’s 21st Infantry Battalion, said government troopers and rebels engaged in a 20-minute fire fight resulting to the arrest of two guerilla fighters.

The rebels scampered leaving two high-powered firearms, one M16 rifle and one M653 rifle, one cal. 45 pistol, several war paraphernalia, voluminous subversive documents and personal belongings.

No casualty was reported on the government side.

AFP Chief of Staff Gregorio Catapang earlier declared Albay province was declared “under the manageable conflict” including the provinces of Catanduanes and Camarines Sur.
