From ABS-CBN (Oct 12): Wanted MILF commander nabbed in North Cotabato town
ALAMADA, North Cotabato - An alleged commander of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) who is wanted for murder and robbery charges has been arrested in Barangay Kamansi, Alamada town of North Cotabato, police said Monday.
Tahir Manangga alias Tahir Saripada, a resident of Sitio Tambonan, Barangay Giling, a mountainous part of Alamada, was issued a warrant of arrest by Regional Trial Court Branch 18 in Midsayap, North Cotabato for various cases including robbery, frustrated murder, murder, multiple attempted murder and homicide.
Chief Insp. Joseph Bryan Placer, chief of Alamada police, said Manangga was visible in the area during the negotiation conducted to appease two warring parties in Sitios Marabuhay and Papandayon in Barangay Bao last week.
Authorities apprehended Manangga at a checkpoint in Barangay Kamansi. He did not resist arrest.
"Si Commander Tahir huli na lang namin nalaman na diyan siya nakatira. Bundok kasi 'yan, boundary na ng Banisilan at ang hirap hulihin kasi affiliated sa MILF," Placer said.
He said the MILF, through the Coordinating Committee on the Cessation of Hostilities, had requested Alamada police to have him detained in Midsayap municipal police station while waiting for his commitment order in Amas Provincial Jail in Kidapawan City.
MILF Bangsamoro Islamic Armed Forces spokesman Von Al-Haq told ABS-CBN News in a phone interview that they will still have to verify the information and the identity of the arrested commander.
