Regional police command imposes heightened alert in Northern Mindanao

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 2): Regional police command imposes heightened alert in Northern Mindanao

The regional police command in Northern Mindanao has put the entire command in heightened alert after the bus bombing in the nearby province of Cotabato on Wednesday.

Chief Supt. Lyndel Desquitado, director of the regional police command, said Friday that the police have started to deploy sniffing dogs since Thursday in the city’s busy bus terminals.

He said that the passenger buses in the city ply to all points in eastern, southern, and western Mindanao cities and provinces.

Desquitado said that the police assigned in bus terminals here have been instructed to coordinate with bus companies and private security guards in the bus terminals.

He said that the local police have also deployed patrol teams and established close coordination with the military and private security guard companies.

“We have coordinated with the Army’s explosive and ordnance team to respond to bomb threats,” Desquitado said.

He said that while the police regional command’s sub police stations are always ready to respond to any eventuality, it is necessary to be on alert all the time.

The regional police command covers the provinces of Bukidnon, a province adjacent to Cotabato, Misamis Oriental, Misamis Occidental, Camiguin and Lanao Del Norte.
