Harris radios will improve the communication capacity of every squad that can send messages through the Internet and text messaging, according to Major Angelo Guzman, spokesman of the Southern Luzon Command of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP).

In a radio interview on Thursday (Oct. 1) here, Guzman said the equipment is similar to those used by the Australian, Royal and United States armed forces.

Moreover, Guzman said that the modernization program instituted by the Department of National Defense (DND) and the AFP include the replacement of firearms from the M-16 Baby Armalite to M4 Armalite which is currently used by the US Armed Forces in their fight against terrorists and enemies of the state.

The M4 Armalites which are currently good for distribution and the Harris radios will greatly improve the capability of the soldiers in their operations in the province, Guzman added.

The Southern Luzon Command spokesperson said that by the end of 2016 peace and order will be achieved in the province as shown by the increasing number of rebels returning to the side of the government.
