Ongoing PHIBLEX 16 an investment to participating nations' future

From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 2): Ongoing PHIBLEX 16 an investment to participating nations' future

Aside from boosting the interoperability of participating Filipino and American Marine units, Naval Director General Major Gen. Alexander Balutan said the ongoing Philippine Amphibious Landing Exercise (PHIBLEX 16) is also an investment to the future of the two participating nations.

"Hence, combined training and exchange of expertise are imperative in building our forces into a better and competent military outfit. In training we are not only investing in individual Marine, but we are also investing in the future of our country," he added.

PHIBLEX 16 started on Oct. 1 and will end on the 9th.

Around 860 US Marines and 748 of their Filipino counterparts are now taking part in the annual military maneuvers.

"To me, honing your skills is not only a crucial requisite to rendering better service to the people, but also a reward to one’s self as it forms you into a better man. This should make all of you very proud to be part of this exercise. The sense of pride should drive you to be at your best in your field of work because training is not far from doing our wares in the actual operational environment," Balutan added.

The Filipino military official added that the ongoing bilateral exercise has proven once again the strong historical commitment of the Philippines and the US as equal partners in maintaining our strategic well-being and survival.

"As we embark on confronting the emerging global threat today such as drug trafficking, transnational crimes and global terrorism the need for heightened vigilance and proactive roles among allies should be revisited, influenced by strong forces of interdependence," he stressed.
