The Leyte provincial
government commended 37 individuals for the successful implementation of the
Comprehensive Local Integration Program (CLIP) intended for former rebels.
Leyte Governor Leopoldo Dominico Petilla handed the plaques
and certificates on Thursday to 37 personalities composed of army officials,
policemen, provincial peace and order council members, and local government
officials.
CLIP seeks to contribute towards achieving the goal of
permanent and peaceful closure of all armed conflicts with non-state armed
groups.
It aims to facilitate the mainstreaming of former rebels as
productive citizens and to enhance capacities of local government units and
national government agencies in the implementation and sustainability of the
project.
Petilla said that the support of the local government unit
is an important factor for peace to prosper and ensure development.
Vice Governor Carlo P. Loreto said that “peace cannot be
allowed to go astray; we have to take care of it.”
“Today we celebrate peace with the hope that we will
remember there is no substitute for a prosperous province or town, which is the
best defense against war and the evils that come with it,” said Loreto.
The CLIP focuses in the integration program for members of
the Communist Party of the Philippines ,
New People’s Army and National Democratic Front who have decided to abandon
armed struggle and be mainstreamed into society.
