From the Philippine News Agency (Oct 2): Joint Task Group Basilan intercepts vehicle carrying IEDs

Units from Joint Task Group Basilan have successfully intercepted a suspicious-looking vehicle carrying three improvised explosive devices (IEDs) during checkpoint operations at Barangay Suyak, Ungkaya Pukan town Friday morning.

1st Lt. Sally Magno, Joint Task Group Basilan public affairs office chief, said this took place at 5 a.m.

She added that troopers from the 18th Infantry Battalion were conducting checkpoint in the said area when they spotted a red multi-cab.

And when they tried to flag down its driver, the latter immediately scampered towards the direction of Barangay Baquindan, Tipo-Tipo town, leaving behind the vehicle.

Subsequent search revealed that the multi-cab was carrying three LPG tanks which further examination revealed to be powerful IEDs.

Investigations are still ongoing to determine the identity of the escaped driver and his possible targets.
