Woman shot dead by suspected NPA rebels

From the Philippine News Agency (Sep 25): Woman shot dead by suspected NPA rebels

A housewife was killed by suspected New People’s Army members in the presence of her husband and three companions at Barangay Valparaiso, San Fernando, Masbate allegedly for refusing to be their community organizer.

Victim Meriam J. Capsa was with her husband Ariesto and three other aboard a passenger motorcycle going to Barangay Poblacion, San Jacinto, Masbate when upon reaching Barangay Valparaiso, San Fernando, they heard multiple gunshots from unidentified persons clad in military uniform and armed with long firearms, prompting them to stop.

More or less five persons approached Ariesto, forcibly grabbed him from the motorcycle, tied his hands and instructed him to lie facing the ground.

Afterwards, he heard five gun shots and the unidentified suspects immediately fled towards the mountainous part of the village.

Moments later, responding village volunteer security men arrived and discovered the lifeless body of Meriam.

Ariesto said that since 2013, NPA rebels operating in Ticao Island had been dropping by their house and convincing his wife to be one of their community organizers.

The San Fernando MPS is still conducting an in-depth investigation for the possible identification and apprehension of the suspects.
