From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 7): Troops, NPA rebels clashed in Misamis Occidental

Government troops have recovered war materials and documents of high-intelligence value the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels abandoned following a 40-minute clash in the hinterlands of Misamis Occidental.

Capt. Francisco Salvador Suelto, Joint Task Force Zampelan spokesperson, said the clash ensued around 1:15 p.m. Monday in Barangay Hoyohoy, Tangub City, Misamis Occidental.

Suelto said the troops from the Army’s 55th Infantry Battalion were on law enforcement operations when they chanced upon the group of NPA rebels.

Suelto said the troops recovered several rounds of ammunition, documents containing code names of NPA members, and other war materials at the clash site.

He disclosed that a soldier was wounded during the clash. The NPA rebels were believed to have sustained casualties but were dragged by their companions.

He said the conduct of intensified law enforcement operations is aimed to thwart atrocities and expedite the arrest of lawless elements here in Mindanao.
