From the Philippine News Agency (Apr 7): Army units engage BIFF anew in Maguindanao town

Troopers of the 1st Mechanized Division engaged members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Barangay Katibpuan, Talayan town, Maguindanao last April 5.

The unit is under Joint Task Central of the 6th Infantry Division.

Capt. Jo-ann Petinglay, unit spokesperson, in a statement released Tuesday, said the troopers were conducting law enforcement operations when they encountered the BIFF bandits at 2: 39 a.m.

“Firefight lasted for more than an hour with no casualties reported on the government side while undetermined on the enemy,” she added.

At 3:30 a.m. of the same day, troops of the 62nd Division Reconnaissance Company provided fire support to the engaging troops.
