The Department of Justice-National Bureau of Investigation
(DOJ-NBI) investigating team on Thursday asked the Moro Islamic Liberation
Front (MILF) to allow them to talk with the witnesses and families of the slain
civilians and members of the MILF in the Mamasapano incident.
According to Justice Secretary Leila M. De Lima, the
investigators would need the testimonies from them to pursue on who should be
charged for the death of at least nine civilians in the said encounter, as well
as the death of the 18 members of the MILF.
De Lima said that the second phase of the investigation
would be the identification of those responsible for the death of nine members
of the 84th Company of the Special Action Force (SAF) near the nipa hut of
Marwan in Barangay Pinsandawan.
The DOJ Chief gave the investigating team a period of two
months to submit their second report.
Meanwhile, De Lima also said that the investigating team
also took into consideration in their investigation the ongoing peace process
between the government and the MILF.
