From Bernama (Mar 9): Ten Injured In Rebel Attacks In South Philippines

At least ten people were injured in separate attacks by suspected leftist rebels in southern Philippines on Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.

Major Christian Uy, spokesperson of the army's 4th Infantry Division, said Monday seven policemen were wounded in a landmine blast on a road in Quezon town, Bukidnon province around 7:20 a.m. Sunday.

The police formed part of the 10th Regional Public Safety Battalion tasked to respond to an earlier burning of banana trucks and an attack on a militia detachment by the New People's Army (NPA) rebels.

A brief firefight between a police-army team and the rebels erupted in the village around 9 a.m. but caused no casualties.

Two policemen and a civilian were also wounded in an ambush by dozens of NPA rebels on a police vehicle in Marilog district in Davao City around 1:30 p.m. Sunday.

The regional military has ordered a pursuit operation against fleeing rebels.
